Eye Lids and BOTOX®

What is Essential Blepharospasm?

It is a progressive, involuntary contraction of the entire orbicularis muscle and the procerus and conrugate muscles.   The involuntary spasm of the eyelids cause functional blindness and will limit the patients ability to drive , read and general activities.

What is BOTOX®?

BOTOX®  represents the best treatment already available for blepharospasm and hemi facial spasm.  BOTOX®  is administered by small injections into the upper area of eyelids and brow.  It will give temporary relief of eye lid spasms, or furrowing eye brows.  The success rate of BOTOX® is 90%, while lasting any where from  12-16 weeks.

The side effects of BOTOX® are well tolerated.  In general, eyelid drooping and corneal irritation are the most common side effects and only lasts 1-2 weeks.  Double vision rarely occurs and resolves  after a few weeks.

What about Botox for Cosmetic Reasons?

BOTOX® Cosmetic has been FDA approved for the treatment of those pesky brow furrow lines.  Dr. Archer, who is a National Trainer for BOTOX®, can also treat crow's feet by the eyes, forehead creases, and wobbly neck bands.
